Why Reading Lists?

Instructors can use Reading Lists to pull together valuable resources available through Stoxen Library, easily collect online content, and even add your own files. These resources can be grouped and organized into lists that can then be shared with a specific course or a large audience. Every citation can be annotated and opened for discussion, and for every course, you can access reports that show how many students have viewed the full text, ‘Liked’ an item, marked an item ‘Read It,’ and how many have commented.

Add Reading Lists to your Course

You can add the Reading Lists tool to your course in Blackboard by following the directions below. Instructions can also be found in this video.

In the content section of your course, there is a plus sign that appears when you hover between content items. Click on the plus sign to add a new item.

Select Content Market to access the list of available tools.

Scroll until you find Reading Lists- DSU, and click on the + to add the tool.

To make the link visible to your students, click on the ... and click Edit. Then choose Visible to students from the drop down.

Click on the new tool link to create the link between your course and Reading Lists.

Common Issues

Q: I use Edge as my browser, and it is not allowing me to install Cite It! How do I install the tool?

A: Adding Cite It! to Edge is a little bit difficult but not impossible. Follow the directions in the document below. For ease of installation and use of Cite It!, the library recommends using Chrome or Firefox.

Q: I want to see what the students will see when they click on the Reading Lists link in Blackboard, but when I click on the link in Student View, I get an error message. Is my Reading List actually visible to students?

A: Yes, students will be able to access your Reading List once it is published. You see that message because Reading Lists is a separate product from Blackboard and uses its own student view. To view your Reading List as a student, click the three dots in the top right of Reading List, and choose "View list as a student."
