Welcome to Dickinson State University. Stoxen Library is here to help you succeed in the classroom and in your personal research. It doesn't matter if you teach in person or online. The library has tools to help. Keep reading to see what Stoxen Library can do for you!
Stoxen Library purchases books, ebooks, DVDs, and other materials to support DSU students and faculty. We want to acquire material that will be used, so we welcome suggestions. There are several mechanisms available for suggesting material for purchase:
If you have any questions, please contact the library.
Stoxen Library has many options available for library instruction. The chart below illustrates some of the directions we can go. Contact Stoxen Library to schedule library instruction.
Face-to-Face: | Faculty can request an instruction session in the library classroom or in your own classroom. These sessions can be streamed and recorded. |
Online (synchronous): | Faculty can request an online instruction session. The librarian would join your class via Blackboard Collaborate and teach during your regularly scheduled class time. |
Course Embedded Librarian: | Faculty can add a librarian as a teaching assistant to your Blackboard class. The librarian can add links to library resources, host discussions on scholarly research and how to find information, email students about specific library resources relating to course assignments, answer questions, and more. An embedded librarian can assist faculty for the full course term, or provide targeted services at specific points during the course. |
LibGuides: | A librarian can create a class or subject specific LibGuide intended to help students discover a variety of sources relevant to their subject area. |
Collections: | A librarian can create a class or assignment based collection intended to help students discover a variety of sources relevant to the subject. |
Customized Tutorials/Instruction Videos: | Contact Stoxen Library to request a specific video or series of videos for your class. The librarian will provide a link that can be uploaded in Blackboard or placed in a Reading List. Videos are also posted on the Library Help and Tutorials Guide. |
Research Consultation: | Students can request a research consultation as an individual or a group. Students can approach librarians directly or fill out the Book a Librarian form. The librarian and student will review the assignment and discuss available resources. A library consult early on becomes an essential part of the research process, and provides maximum exposure to quality sources. |
Course Reserves provide students with access to required and supplementary learning materials in support of research, teaching, and learning. Stoxen Library offers both physical and electronic course reserves.
For more information on physical and electronic course reserves check out the Course Reserves LibGuide.
Stoxen Library Course Reserve forms and policies are below.
As faculty, you have access to all circulating materials in Stoxen Library. Bring items to the front desk to check them out. Your DSU ID is your library card. If you don't have your ID with you, it's okay! Library staff can look you up to bring up your account.
If the library does not own or have access to something you need, it can be requested through Interlibrary Loan. Interlibrary Loan is our library borrowing an item from another library. This service is free to current faculty, staff, and students. For more information on Interlibrary Loan, check out the LibGuide.
Stoxen Library has technology available for faculty to check out. We have a limited number of laptops, projectors, and assorted other items. If you have short term technology needs, contact the library.
The following terms apply to Stoxen Library owned items ONLY. Faculty may have 40 items checked out at any given time. In the event you need more than 40, the library can override this setting.
